SSD (Solid State Drive)
MicroCosmoTalk gets excited about Solid State Drives. The advantages of a solid state drive include...
Some end up very small in size (U.S.B. plug-ins that fit in your pockets) while some larger capacity models end up about the size of deck of cards.
Very light (no mechanical motors).
Solid state drives make no noise. One word describes the noise that comes from a solid state drive: silent. Normal hard disk drives make a lot of noise and eventually wear out.
Many hold life expectancies over 5 years. We were one of the first people in the world to buy a USB Flash drive. We do not know the true life expectancy. But ours went through the washer and the dryer multiple times and never lost any information and continues to work until this day (November, 2008).
Flash memory sticks commonly do not get defined as SSD (solid state drives) but in reality they are. In 2008, a whole new line of products entered the market and these new products spell the end of the mechanical disk drives, possibly including the end of DVD drives as well. Solid state drives in the past ended up as very expensive drives sold only to banks and corporate customers that plugged them into racks. In 2008, 32 GB (and bigger) SSD appeared at slightly high prices, but affordable to average folk.
Flash memory drives end up very cheap to produce so the price benefit gets handed on down to consumers.
Some types currently out-perform mechanical disk drives in both reading and writing. Banks and other companies bought large models as disk drives in the past (very expensive). The SATA (Serial ATA) interface promises the demise of all mechanical disk drives. Who needs a slow DVD writer when a 128 GB SSD exist?
About MicroCosmoTalk
MicroCosmoTalk actively researches and supports finding cures for diabetes. We donate most of the procedes received from sales to researching A CURE for diabetes. We appreciate any and all support you can provide. We KNOW a cure exists. And we believe we can get there within 5 years. Why do we care? Because the owner of the company understands diabetes very well. He ended up an emergency medical technician and was astounded at the disingenuous information that others in emergency rooms claimed to know about. He commonly visits emergency rooms and questions the professionals (doctors, nurses, EMTs) in these places.
We recently walked the streets in Miami, Florida. We learned about the homeless situation there. We learned about crime in Miami where lovely street vendors working hard to provide meals for their children end up dead while trying to sell fresh fruit and vegetables. And we would like to mention that the homeless people, the poor people of the world, and the hard working people of this world hold a very special spot in our heart. We know... we are one of those that walked the streets with the homeless. We understand.
